• • • Do not reuse.
    • It is not uncommon to feel some pain or cough when draining fluid. If you feel pain when draining, clamp the drain line to slow or stop the flow of fluid for a few minutes. If you don’t feel better after doing this contact your nurse or doctor and withhold further drainage.
    • Keep the valve on your ASEPT Drainage Catheter clean and the end connector of the drain line sterile.
    • Do not use scissors or other sharp objects near the ASEPT Drainage Catheter.

Note: If the catheter gets punctured or cut, follow the instructions below:

1. 1. 1. Pinch the catheter closed between your fingers.
      2. Push the blue emergency slide clamp (included in the procedure pack) over the catheter between the patient’s body and the cut or leak, then push the catheter completely into the small end of the clamp. The clamp will close the catheter.
      3. Contact your doctor or nurse immediately.

• • • It is recommended to limit drainage to no more than 1000 mL from your chest at any one drainage procedure: 2000 mL from your abdomen during any 24-hour period. The volume of. fluid removed should be based on directions from the treating physician.
    • If you see any signs of infection, do not continue with the drainage procedure and contact your doctor or nurse.
    • Gauze should remain dry at all times. You may shower or bathe once self-adhesive dressing seals gauze from moisture. If gauze appears wet, change dressing immediately.

• The drainage process typically takes 10-15 minutes.
• It is recommended to limit drainage to no more than 2000 mL from your abdomen during any 24-hour period. The volume of fluid removed should be based on directions from the treating physician.

• The tip of your catheter has been placed in your chest. The exit site of the catheter can vary but is typically near the bottom of your rib cage in the abdomen.
• The drainage process typically takes 10-15 minutes.
• It is recommended to limit drainage to no more than 1000 mL from your chest at any one drainage procedure. The volume of fluid removed should be based on directions from the treating physician.
